Introspection

Introspection is defined as: “The examination or observation of one's own mental and emotional processes.”

Simply put, Introspection allows you to dive into the depths of your mind, and soul, and gain a conscious understanding of what drives your thoughts and feelings, and as a result your behaviour and actions.

The cool part about introspection is that it doesn’t require any of the 5 senses to be stimulated in order to perform it. Therefore, you can trigger it on demand anytime you like from the comfort of your couch or bed, without seeing, smelling, hearing, touching or tasting anything. The only thing you need is a quiet setting.

Having said that, if being in the presence of nature or listening to nature’s sounds or instrumental music helps you get more relaxed and into a state of deep thought, it’s absolutely fine.

Are you ready to go diving?

1. Close your eyes and ask yourself: Who am I? What do I stand for? What is my life’s meaning and purpose?

2. After you had some time to think about it, click on the blog post link below: Your Coat of Arms: https://www.itsonlyyourlife.com/post/your-title-what-s-your-blog-about-12

3. Watch the 2-minute video and scroll down the blog to review all the Core Values and Life Meaning elements.

4. Spend as much time as you need thinking about the Core Values and Life meaning elements that represent you the most.

5. When you’re ready, take a piece of paper and pen.

6. Write down your 10 Core values.

7. Then write down your 10 Life meaning elements.

8. Print a copy of the front and back of the plain coat of arms shield located at the bottom of the blog.

9. Out of the 10 Core Values that you wrote down, pick the top 4 and write the initial of each one in the 4 quadrants of the front shield - as per the diagram.

10. Now, pick the top 4 Life meaning elements and write them in the 4 quadrants in the back of the shield - as per the diagram.

You will likely have a hard time picking only 4 Core values and Life meaning elements that identify you. Remember, if everything is a priority, nothing is a priority.

Congratulations, you now have your Coat of Arms. It will serve as your north star and protect you against indecisiveness and confusion when faced with hard decisions and choices. Keep it in a safe place and refer to it periodically to remind yourself of who you are and what you stand for.
