On a sunny afternoon in 1665, Isaac Newton was sitting under an apple tree when he observed an apple fall down to the ground. He wondered why the apple didn’t move sideways or upwards. This occurrence led him to develop the Law of Universal Gravitation which enabled scientists all over to understand astronomy better, and 300 years later send the first man to the moon. Isaac Newton therefore changed the world.
Now, let’s take a moment to think about all the products and services you interact with and rely on every single day, like your cellphone, personal computer, favourite social media platform, the internet and countless others. All these things didn’t exist not too long ago. They were invented by individuals who recognized a need for it before society itself even realized it needed it. All these inventors shared one thing in common: They were mindful.
Which begs the question; what is Mindful?
Being mindful is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.
Mindfulness is a quality that every human being already possesses, they just need to learn and practice how to access it.
Remember, apples have been falling down from trees for thousands of years around people. Yet no one before Isaac Newton realized the bigger meaning behind this ordinary occurrence. He realized that the apple was just an object that could be replaced by any other object, and it would not change the natural force that governs everything on earth which, thanks to him we call gravity.
By practicing mindfulness, you will start noticing things that you haven’t noticed before. Your attention span and focus will greatly improve, and who knows, maybe one day you too could change the world.
